TROUT FISHING

Kashmir is rightly called ' Angler's Paradise' as Nature has blessed this land with numerous streams and high altitude lakes where trout abound in fairly good number.

There are about 61 designated fishing beats across the valley which are accessible by well paved roads.

In addition to these fishing beats there are number of high altitude lakes ,like Gangbal and Vishansar lakes which are known for brown trout.However, these lakes can be reached on a horseback or by trekking in 2 - 3 days . Fishing is allowed against a fishing permit issued by the Department of Fisheries, J & K government,at Srinagar, on the payment of a fixed tariff.
